FEATURED ARTISTElizabeth Hebert
I enjoy the challenge of fine photo realism art. I particularly like the vibrancy of acrylic paint in my work and the energy it brings to the piece. I’m thankful for the emotional response that my work generates to the viewer, and in cases invokes meaningful memories.
– Elizabeth Hebert
Elizabeth Anne (Betty) Hebert is a local artist from Dundas, Ontario. Betty starting drawing in the margins of her scribblers in school and was always interested in art.
When she turned 50 and her mother died, Hebert began getting back into painting nearly full-time. Betty has done many portraits on canvas and work with acrylic paint. Best known for her intricate paintings on feathers, Betty Hebert has created a unique brand offering for art enthusiasts. She got started on the curious artwork in 1996 when she painted a pod of peas on a tiny cockatiel feather. Stating the feather reminded her of a spoon, so a pod of peas was a given. Friends loved the result and she began experimenting with different bird feathers; keeping them numbered for identification.
People collect feathers from all around the world and bring them to Betty to create her beautiful artwork. She has painted on flamingo, peacock and parrot feathers to name a few. Panda bears, penguins, dandelions, lilies, trilliums, birds of all sorts, golf scenes, horses, cats, tigers, fish, butterflies, motorcycles, houses, and lighthouses are among the items she has painted on some 2,000 feathers over the years.
Hebert’s framed and matted monarch butterfly on an echinacea flower, painted on a wild turkey feather was part of a gift donated by The Gallery Upstairs, and presented to Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall on behalf of the town of Milton; while they were recognized with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for volunteerism.
Betty Hebert has been a board member for the Leamington Arts Centre and The Arts Council of Windsor and Essex County. She has been in numerous juried art shows and entered many art competitions. Earning honourable mention in a miniature art show in Toronto, Ontario. She has been in art shows in Canada, the United States and Singapore. Her work has been for purchase in Ontario, British Columbia and Nova Scotia.
Betty Hebert is a good friend and well known local artist. There is a permanent collection of her unique feather artwork available at The Gallery Upstairs. Many art lovers run into her while Betty is visiting the gallery.
